  • Annabelle

    Tutor
    University of Oxford - History

Hello! I’m Annabelle, a History Graduate from the University of Oxford. I studied English Literature, History and Politics at A-Level. I graduated with First Class Honours and was awarded three prizes from my college during my studies for academic excellence. My dissertation, which was awarded a McCartney Prize, explored Anglo-Ottoman interactions in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Aside from my studies, I am a keen journalist and was involved in lots of Oxford student publications as an undergraduate. Since graduation, I have started completing my TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) qualification after spending my summer as an English teacher in Thailand. My aim as a tutor is to help build students’ confidence alongside tailored assistance on the more technical aspects of applications and essays. I empathise with how daunting learning can be, especially when things don’t quite click the first time round! I lead all my teaching with positivity, boundless energy and the desire to pass on my passion for essay-based subjects. I am beyond excited to be a part of the OTC Team and start helping students reach their full potential!

  • George

    Tutor
University of Cambridge & Oxford - History

Hello, my name is George and I am a first-year PhD student studying late-nineteenth-century religious history at the University of Cambridge. I am an experienced tutor with four years of experience and over 750 hours of sessions taught. I completed an MPhil in Modern British History at Cambridge in 2022, achieving a distinction and before that received a first class degree in History from the University of Oxford for which I was awarded both a college and university prize. Having applied to both Oxford and Cambridge, I have an intimate knowledge of the admissions processes and application procedures across the two universities and have successfully helped other aspiring historians in preparation for applying. Last year, I mentored two candidates for history at Oxford and was delighted that both received offers. I work particularly on giving prospective students confidence in applying, helping them to express their ideas in preparation for interview and guiding them every step of the way with the wisdom gained from my experience. I have also worked with over thirty A Level students in History and Politics and have seen a number of them go on to achieve A*s. I look forward to hearing from interested applicants.

  • Joseph

    Tutor
    University of Cambridge - History

Hi everyone, my name’s Joseph. I’m a kind, organised, and experienced tutor with a passion for history, writing, and expanding access to a high-quality education. Last year, I graduated from Queens’ College at the University of Cambridge with a First in History, for which I was awarded a Foundation Scholarship. I have extensive experience in teaching essay-writing skills, and I have led Oxbridge interview practice sessions for sixth-formers. Since graduating, I have tutored English to students and young professionals, as well as conducting political and historical research for think-tanks and the UN. I have also written in the national and student press, including for the Big Issue, and I am now reading for a Masters in Middle Eastern Studies at SOAS, University of London. Having come top of my college’s subject admission interviews and achieved A*s in History and Mathematics at A-Level, I know the importance of engaging and well-structured guidance for academic success. I always adapt lessons to my students’ unique concerns and preferences and provide clear points for improvement, to make studying and university admissions as enjoyable and successful as possible!

  • Conall

    Tutor
    University of Cambridge - History

Hi there! I’m Conall, a recent graduate from Peterhouse, Cambridge, where I read history with particular interest in the history of thought and achieved a first. I’ve been tutoring professionally for almost two years, from GCSE up to university admissions. All of my admissions students so far have achieved their places at Cambridge, and I am teaching several more this year with detailed preparation for interviews and the HAT/HAA exams. I have also conducted countless mock interviews for History and HistPol, simulating the real thing by following guidance from my own college’s admissions team. For my GCSE and A Level students, I teach History, Politics, Philosophy and R.S. for all abilities, some of my students achieving increases of 13 marks average in their exam essays. I like to focus on those important areas that the classroom tends to miss, such as the argument and structure of written answers, to make sure that every student is well-assured of their fundamental ability (which is, invariably, better than they realise!) I believe that confidence is half the battle, so you can expect in me a cheerful and encouraging guide - truly, the highest grades are closer than you think.

  • Daisy

    Tutor
    University of Oxford - History

Hello! I'm Daisy, a finalist at Oxford studying History BA (2023). I was awarded an academic grant in my first year by St Catherines College for my essay, and have gained alot of tutoring experience across the years, ranging from online to in person, GSCE to A level. I truly enjoy speaking to students passionate about their degrees, and believe alot can be gained from engaging in debate and inter-disciplinary conversations. I have experience with Personal Statement, Entrance exams, and Interview Preparation for History and English at Oxbridge. Having spoken to many tutors over the last few years I feel I can truly advise on what interviewers are looking for, helping students navigate what can be a rather disorientating process. I am a creative and outgoing person, with a range of interests that I bring to my degree including Art, Film, English and Sociology. I also have experience directing in a student theatre company, where I learnt that building confidence when performing in stressful environments (such as an Oxbridge interview) is key in forming sophisticated arguments, and recalling information on the spot. I look forward to hearing about your interest in the subject!

  • Mia

    Tutor
    University of Oxford - History

Hi there, I'm Mia, a recent History graduate from the University of Oxford. I am an experienced and engaging tutor, well-versed in coaching prospective History applicants to receive places from the both Oxford, and Cambridge. My tutoring specialism is the HAT. I pride myself on my ability to demystify, this most nebulous of Oxbridge Admissions test, helping sixth form students to recognise the key skills professors are seeking to identify and how students can best demonstrate such skills in their responses. My Degree taught me many things; most importantly how to have clarity of communication in the explanation of complex ideas. I pride myself in being an enthusiastic, approachable and reliable facilitator of learning. My tutors at Oxford entrusted me in my second and third years to guide and advise the history undergraduates in the years below on techniques to approach their own work. I derived great satisfaction in helping others achieve their full potential and discussing the wide variety of their own specialisms, so different to mine. I look forward to meeting you soon!

Hi, I’m Isabella, and I am going into my final year of studying History at St Anne’s College, University of Oxford. As a warm and friendly person, I’ve had great success in my extensive past tutoring experience in engaging with students to achieve successful applications to Oxbridge for History, History and Politics and History and Economics. • Shannon

    Tutor
    University of Cambridge - History

I recently graduated from Cambridge University with a First Class History BA degree and I am currently tutoring in the evenings and at weekends while working Mon-Fri as a teaching assistant in a secondary school. I have over four years of tutoring experience, mostly online, and I teach a range of subjects: Maths, History, Politics, Spanish, Science, English, 11+ prep, 13+ prep, SATs prep and Oxbridge prep. I can be flexible with lessons; I can offer intensive tutoring with several sessions per week, or just the occasional session when extra help is needed. I aim to strip subjects down to the logic as a starting point, so that my students have a fundamental understanding which they can then build on at school. I track my students’ progress through assessments, asking lots of questions and encouraging them in return. I would say my key strength is my ability to quickly identify my tutees’ areas for improvement. I would describe myself as committed and diligent, as demonstrated by my academic record - 11 A*s at GCSE and A*A*ABB at A Level. I am a good listener, a good communicator and I have plenty of patience. I am also fun and engaging and my lessons are relaxed and varied, not strict or dry. My lessons feature lots of discussion work and there is no `right and wrong`, but at the same time, I maintain a consistent focus on exam technique.
